Such an amazing dish as fried chestnuts is made from the edible fruits of the chestnut tree (grows in the Balkan Peninsula), they are quite nutritious and contain a lot of starch. During the cold period of time, Europeans are very fond of eating them, as these fruits have a small amount of fat compared to nuts.
Bread is baked from chestnuts, soup-puree is prepared, desserts are made, flour is made, and they are also served as a side dish. However, before cooking chestnuts, it is always necessary to cut their skin, because they contain a large amount of juice, which, under the influence of high temperatures, turns into steam, pressure is created inside the fruit and it explodes. To prevent this from happening, an incision is made one centimeter deep on the sharp side of the chestnut.
Then they are laid out on a baking sheet in several layers and baked for about half an hour at a high temperature. However, it should be remembered that roasted chestnuts can turn out quite hard and dry in the oven, so it is recommended to bake them in an aluminum dish,on top of which is covered with a napkin, it is periodically moistened. When the sides of the fruit peel off, the napkin is removed and fried for a few more minutes, sometimes shaking. I must say that the whole process of preparing a dish like roasted chestnuts takes about twenty minutes.
You can also use a frying pan. In this case, a small amount of water (about four tablespoons) is added to it, covered with a lid and the fruits are fried over low heat, shaking occasionally for about twenty-five minutes. Readiness is determined as follows: the nut is squeezed, while the shell should be easily removed. The finished dish is sprinkled with s alt or sugar to taste and served hot.
Roasted chestnuts go well with beer, kvass, grape juice or red wine.
You can cook nuts in the microwave. So, they put them in a heat-resistant dish, add s alted water so that it can cover a third of the nuts, and cook for five minutes at maximum power.
It should be noted that roasted chestnuts must be consumed, as they say, with the heat of the heat, because the longer they cool, the more their taste will fade. That is why it is recommended to eat them immediately after baking.
Chestnut fruits contain starch, sugar, ascorbic acid, iron and tannins, which give them a bitter taste. Before cooking them, no matter how, it is recommended to fill them with water. In this case, the fruits that are edible will sink to the bottom, and only spoiled ones will remain on the surface.
Consider another way to prepare roasted chestnuts for ice cream. To do this, half a kilogram of fruit is peeled, cut and dipped in boiling water for two minutes, and then boiled for another five minutes. After that, they are laid out in a mold, sprinkled with two tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoons of butter are added and put in the oven for twenty minutes. When the dish is ready, it is sprinkled with 100 grams of cognac and set on fire.
Thus, today dishes from edible chestnuts, which can be purchased in large stores or supermarkets, are gaining popularity. Hearty and he althy, they taste great like no other.
