Association "Massandra" (Crimea) consists of the main large winery and nine state farms-factories, which have the names: "Gurzuf", "Livadia", "Alushta", "Tavrida", "Privetny", "Malorechensky”, “Sudak”, “Veselovsky” and “Marine”. Grape plantations cover an area of about 4,000 hectares.

About the winery

The world-famous Massandra winery (Crimea) was founded by Prince L. Golitsyn in 1894. He chose an ideal place with an excellent microclimate for creating wine cellars - this is a mountainside near the city of Y alta. The plant was built very high quality. Its walls did not give a single crack during the earthquake in 1927.

The main basement vault was carved into the rocks in 1898 and has seven tunnels fanning out from the central gallery. Each of them has a length of 150 meters and a width of about 5 meters. It stores more than 400 thousand copies and over seven hundred varieties of collection domestic and foreign wines. Some of them are over 200 years old. There are about one million bottles in total.

Interesting facts

At various international tastings and competitions, Massandra Association (Crimea) won various cups: ten Grand Prix and six Super Grand Prix. The enterprise was also awarded 225 gold and silver medals. No other wine company has received more awards for its products. Massandra wines were exhibited three times at the famous Sotheby's international auction. In 2001, the oldest bottle of sherry was sold for $50,000. Today, the oldest wine in the distillery's collection is a 1775 Spanish sherry called "Jerez de la Frontera". There are other species that are over a hundred years old.
