In theaters, popcorn is often sold before screenings. S alty, cheese flavored or sweet, caramel. It's so delicious to watch an exciting thriller or melodrama with this cinematic snack. The parks also sell popcorn. True, it is already cold and therefore not so tasty. A natural question arises: "Is it possible to cook popcorn at home?" So it will be hot (we start frying it 5-10 minutes before we sit down in front of the TV) and much cheaper. After all, popcorn is basically just corn kernels.

From a semi-finished product

I don’t know where, how, but in Ukraine there is such goodness in bulk. Variety of flavors and low prices. We buy a package and follow the instructions. This popcorn is easy to make at home. The cellophane bag contains a paper bag. It must be shaken so that flavor enhancers, emulsifiers and stabilizers are evenlydistributed among the grains of corn. Then place the paper bag in the microwave or preheated oven. Be sure to seam side down. We set the power and time indicated on the package. Then shake it again and send it to the oven for a minute.

Microwave

Cooking popcorn at home is possible in two ways: in a frying pan or in a microwave oven. Let's start with the second, easier one. But first, I’ll make a reservation: not every variety of corn is suitable for popcorn. Hominy, banosh are prepared from dry grain. And for a cinematic treat, corn is needed, in which there is water in a bound state. It is she who explodes with a deafening crack, which is why a small grain turns into swollen airy popcorn. I was surprised that corn is imported to Belarus for popcorn from Bulgaria and even … from Argentina. Because the local grain does not want to explode. Very patient, I guess.

In the microwave, popcorn is cooked at home like this. Corn grains are poured into the bottom of a glass pan with a lid. Calculate the quantity based on the volume of your dishes: a liter of popcorn comes out of 25 g of seeds. Drizzle with vegetable or melted butter, sprinkle with s alt. Close the lid tightly and put in the oven. With a power of 800 W, 4-5 minutes of cooking is enough. At first rare, then frequent claps are heard. When they subside, wait another minute.

Thismethod will require more time and effort. Pour a little vegetable oil into the pan, s alt and put on fire. When the fat warms up, pour in the grains, quickly, until they begin to shoot in different directions, close the lid. The fire must be strong, despite the deafening explosions of disgruntled corn. From time to time we need to contrive and shake the pan (while the lid must be firmly pressed). When the pops become rare, the dish is ready.

Give flavor

If everything went well, you got plain, slightly s alty popcorn. How to give it the taste of cheese, mushrooms, etc.? Children, for example, love sweet popcorn. At home, if you do not use a semi-finished product, various flavors and seasonings are already added to the finished product. However, if s alt, herbs and black pepper with nutmeg do not affect the consistency of the product, then cheese and powdered sugar greatly reduce its crunchy properties. For caramel popcorn, take brown sugar and butter (in a ratio of 1: 1), grind until smooth and mix with the finished popcorn. Place on a baking sheet or in a mold, bake for eight minutes at 180 degrees.
