What is the most famous whiskey?

Of course, the most reputable Scotch, which is popular and recognized throughout the world, is made in Scotland. According to the laws of Scotland, local scotch must be made and aged in the country. Outside of Scotland it is allowed to bottle it, but that's all.

Scotch whiskey is divided intothree main types:

  • m alty;
  • grain;
  • mixed.

M alt (m alt) is considered the highest quality, tastiest and therefore most expensive drink. It has an unusual and bright aroma and only an indescribable taste inherent in it. It is based on m alt, i.e. barley. The grain is dried over a peat fire, and this is a very important step in the production. For distillation, copper cubes are used, which retain a large amount of esters in the resulting distillate. The distillation is done twice. M alt whiskey is divided into single m alt, vatted/pure m alt, single cask, quarter cask.

Grain is not as popular and loved as m alt scotch. For its preparation, corn and wheat are used, which are cheaper. The resulting whiskey is mainly used to make gin or vodka. In Scotland, only one company produces this whiskey to be sold as a standalone product.

The most popular scotch is blended. It accounts for up to 90% of all scotch sales. It is a blend of m alt and grain varieties. The more m alt varieties it contains, the higher the quality and price. Individual premium blends may consist of 60-70% m alt whiskeys from 30 or more distilleries. The most common is standart blend scotch, which consists of only 10-15% m alt varieties.

Bourbon is America's favorite drink

USA is the largest market for whiskey. Technology for making adhesive tape with youIrish and Scottish settlers came to the States. Although the production of bourbon is somewhat different from the traditional one, the main difference is that it has a cereal base. Bourbon is made from corn. This cereal is easy to grow, unpretentious and much cheaper than barley.

Thus, bourbon is a drink made in the United States from cereals. The grain content should be strictly within 51-80%. The use of dyes and flavors is not allowed and is strictly regulated by law. Exposure is carried out only in burnt oak barrels. Reuse of these barrels is prohibited.

The history of bourbon begins in the 18th century, when Baptist pastor Edia Craig built his distillery on the Kentucky River. After he received the first batch of the product, he decided to sell it in New Orleans. However, there were certain problems with transportation. At hand were only barrels in which fish had previously been transported. The priest ordered to burn them from the inside to remove the taste and persistent smell of fish. After that, whiskey was poured into the barrels, and the name "Bourbon. Kentucky" was displayed on the side. In New Orleans, the bourbon was immediately sold out. On the way, he managed to acquire an unusual, bright taste, which appealed to lovers of strong drinks. The name "bourbon" itself appeared, most likely, in honor of Bourbon County (Virginia). This name was enshrined at the legislative level in 1964.
