You can call it both an appetizer and a salad, besides, it is very satisfying, and it is extremely easy to prepare. And disappears from the plates instantly, whether it's a festive or everyday table.

So, all we need is: potatoes in the amount of half a kilo, a couple of onions and herring - one large or two small sizes. In addition, you can use fresh dill, parsley, green onions - as a decoration for the dish. Also, potatoes with onions and herring will require a drop of vegetable oil (it is better to take not refined, but odorous). Here, in fact, are all the ingredients for this super-simple dish.

How to cook

  1. Cook the potatoes right in their uniforms until cooked, after washing them thoroughly. For those who do not understand the "refinement", you can first clean and then cook. Drain the boiling water from the pan and pour the tubers with cold water - so that they cool faster, if, for example, time is running out. But you can just leave it to cool naturally on a plate.

  3. We clean the herring from the insides and cut off the heads, remove the skin and main bones (for the lazy: you can take the fillet right away, but usually the whole herring is “from the barrel”, whole - much tastier and more appetizing). Cut the fillet into small pieces.
  4. Peel the onion, wash and cut into half rings. For those who do not like bitterness: you can scald the chopped onion with boiling water and drain the water.
  5. Peel the potatoes from the "uniform" and cut into halves or pieces, large enough.
  6. Beautifully decorate our simple dish - potatoes with herring and onions (see photo below). To do this, put it in a flat container: on one side - chopped herring, then onion half rings, and on the other side - potatoes (now you can drop oil on it for smell and add a little s alt on top). Some people like to sprinkle the whole thing with fresh chopped herbs. But you can do without it. Decorating the food with the thinnest slices of lemon is considered good form.
  7. Now the potatoes with onions and herring are finally ready to serve.

Note: if desired, whole tubers can bereplace with mashed potatoes cooked on sour cream. It works great as a side dish.

Herring salad with potatoes and onions

And you can also make an original and simple salad with the same ingredients. It is used as a cold snack for strong drinks. To prepare it, we take 4-5 potatoes, a couple of onions, two medium lightly s alted herrings (barrel), vegetable oil (the best option would be cold-pressed, market, sunflower or olive), s alt and ground black pepper - on the tip of a knife. To decorate the salad, we use green onion feathers and dill sprigs. By the way, if you wish, you can add pickled mushrooms - say, mushrooms. Very tasty!

Cooking easy

  1. We prepare the herring, as in the previous recipe, making a fillet out of it. Cut the fish into medium-sized cubes.
  2. My potatoes, peel and boil until tender (the time depends on the variety). Cool and cut into cubes.
  3. Peel and cut the onion: either finely or in half rings - as you like.
  4. If necessary, put a couple of spoons of pickled mushrooms.
  5. In one bowl, mix all the ingredients, adding a little vegetable oil.
  6. Decorate the salad with fresh chopped herbs and let stand a little at the bottom of the refrigerator. An hour later, you can serve it on the table. Bon appetit everyone!
