Importance of daily oil consumption

Basic steps for self-selection of oil

If you still have a desire to independently understand the quality of a natural product, then you should remember some of its features in order to thoroughly approach the selection process. It is important to analyze the following:

  1. The appearance of the package. Preference should be given to foil material, as it protects the product from light, and this prevents the development of pathogenic bacteria in it and allows you to save useful vitamins. Butter stays fresher for longer and is safer to consume.
  2. Study the information on the wrapper. It must indicate the number of the state standard in accordance with which the product is made (for natural butter, GOST R 52969-2008 is used). You should also pay attention to the composition, while not forgetting that in addition to cream or whole milk, nothing else is added to natural butter. The fat content should be at least 72.5%, since all other types will not be natural products made from animal fats (milk).
  3. Pay attention to the price. Saying that the cost of the product is too high, remember that it takes at least 2 liters of milk to make 100 grams of an ingredient. A reasonable conclusion follows from this. The normal price of a pack of butter should be comparable to the cost of two bottles of milk (about 100 Russian rubles). If it is below 75 rubles, probably in the package presentedthere is a product containing vegetable fats.
  4. Check the expiration date given by the manufacturer. Natural butter, which does not contain preservatives, has a shelf life of about one month. At the same time, goods with the addition of vegetable fats and stabilizers can be stored for about a year.

If a briquette with a product has already been bought and it has become possible to test it, then you should spend a few minutes and make sure of its quality. This will allow you to form an opinion about the product of a certain manufacturer, in the future to have your own idea of it, and not rely solely on the rating of butter compiled by other people.

Basic steps for testing oil at home

A few simple experiments will help distinguish natural oil from spray:

  1. It is necessary to make an external inspection of the product in expanded form. The natural ingredient has a light yellow color and a uniform consistency, the packaging should not leave traces of liquid and fat.
  2. Cut with a knife. At the same time, a good product should not fall apart into pieces and crumbs, natural butter is perfectly spread on bread, does not emit any liquid.
  3. Place in water. It needs to be warmed up a bit first. If there is any doubt about the naturalness of the product, then it is worth placing a small piece in water and waiting for a few minutes. The oil will dissolve and the vegetable fat ingredient will break into chunks.
  4. Place the product in the freezer. After the bar of butter is completely frozen, it must be removed from the refrigerator and timed. If after 5-10 minutes it can be easily spread - this is not a natural product. It will take at least 30 minutes for real butter to reach a supple consistency suitable for spreading on bread.
  5. Melt on fire. If the oil does not foam when heated and no impurities are released from it, then most likely you have a quality product.
  6. Try the taste. If a high-quality natural product is purchased, then it will have no smell, and a small piece will melt quite quickly and completely in the mouth, while the spread will stick to the palate or teeth.

Is home testing enough to determine the quality of a product?

You can independently determine the quality of the purchased product only superficially. It is possible to talk about the compliance of the product with the requirements of standards and norms only on the basis of laboratory experiments and studies that are taken into account when rating butter. Considering its popularity among Russians, 74 trademarks were subjected to testing this year on the instructions of the Russian government. The types of goods most frequently purchased by consumers were tested.

The ranking of the best brands of butter in Russia was carried out on the basis of research by ANO Russian Quality System, taking into account the requirements of the national monitoring system (through rolling tests). Laboratorystudies of a product with a mass fraction of fat content of 72.5% were carried out in May 2018.

Checking 72.5% fat butter

To rank the best butter in Russia, 82 samples from different brands were examined. Experts carefully checked about 25 different indicators, on the basis of which it became possible to determine the level of quality of products.

According to research results, 23% of goods (19 samples) fully meet the requirements. That is, these products do not contain pathogenic bacteria, preservatives, vegetable fats, and their fat content and composition meet the standard, they are made from high-quality natural raw materials. In addition to eminent manufacturers known throughout Russia (“House in the Village”, “Every Day”, “Prostokvashino”), the title of the best was also won by trademarks known only in certain regions and not very popular throughout the country (for example, "Vyatushka", "Kungur", "Tommoloko" and others).

Are there fakes among butter with a fat content of 72.5%?

But not all manufacturers turned out to be conscientious, 10 of them add vegetable fats to the oil. However, the packaging does not indicate the presence of any impurities. Russians should refrain from purchasing butter from these manufacturers (for example, Volzhanochka, Peasant from Bashkiria, Seryshevsky and others).

Some of the products have not been successfully tested and it does not find a place in the rating as quality. Butter from some manufacturers contains E. coli. In laboratory studies, it was found that fungi and bacteria were present in the products of 7 manufacturers (Green Agro, Irbitskoye, Stavropolsky Dairy Plant, Omsk Quality Mark, Very Important Cow, Semenishna, Creamy Morning ). And Polar Bear oil contained mold spores, which can lead to intestinal infections and serious poisoning of the body.

Additionally, employees of the regulatory authority note the presence of preservatives in four manufacturers. They increase the shelf life of the final product by adding sorbic acid to it. It is noteworthy that the oil of the Love Product brand contained an incredibly large dose of this substance: 228.8 milligrams of sorbic acid per 1 kilogram of the finished product.
