What is eggnog

"Egg legs" is translated from English as "pot for eggs". This is a sweet mixture based on milk and raw chicken eggs. The cocktail is prepared both with alcohol and without alcohol. "Nog" is a strong ale that was originally used to make a drink. Currently, whiskey, rum, brandy, liquor, wine are used as alcohol-containing impurities according to the egg leg recipe. Everything is up to you. Egg nog is a close relative of the mogul-mogul cocktail common in the all-Slavic states.

From the history of occurrence

The eggnog recipe was invented in Scotland, and in the native land, the drink is mostly made for Christmascelebrations. The cocktail was especially famous in England, America, France. Most often, the drink is served as a dessert at meetings, receptions and expensive parties. In the Slavic countries, egg nog is quite rare in cocktail menus of restaurants.

The eggnog recipe reached its peak in the USA when, in the 19th century, bartender Jerry Thomas published several recipes for this drink in his popular book, where ale was replaced with rum and milk. In Jerry's interpretation, the drink is made without heating. And he repeatedly emphasized that in Scotland they came up with a hot eggnog cocktail, and the eggnog drink is the business of the Americans. In short, there is a difference.

But even in this version, the egg leg recipe was excluded from the International Register of the Bartending Association in 2012. The specific basis is unknown, probably due to the countless cooking options that claim to be authentic. And currently there are more than 5 dozen variations.

Strong spirits (rum, brandy, whiskey) in the Christmas cocktail began to be added in the USA. In Italy, cherry syrup is added; in Germany, eggs are replaced with egg liqueur. Everyone can come up with their own way of cooking, substituting one alcohol for another, for example, rum for vodka, or adding fruit or nut syrup. There are many variations of making a cocktail, but, as a rule, they change the alcohol-containing components and the combination of spices.
