Recently, a new format restaurant has appeared in Moscow - a shuk restaurant "Market and public catering". The idea of creating an establishment in the Israeli style came up with Moscow restaurateur Yevgeny Katsnelson, who already has considerable experience in the restaurant business (he owns such establishments as Shatyor, Brothers Karavaev, Chagin).
Features of the cafe "Market and Catering"
The main feature of this establishment is that it does not function as an ordinary cafe, in which each guest (or company) sits at a separate table, chooses dishes from the proposed menu, and then waits for the dishes ordered by him for some time.
Here everything is done in the style of an Israeli shuk (market), where the visitor can choose the products they like, pay for them and go home. But you can also sit at one of the two large long tables, in the companycasual visitors and taste the dishes ordered in the cafe from the proposed menu. Many guests come here to buy home traditional Jewish sweets, pickles, bread and other goodies that are dear to the heart of any resident of Israel.
Interior
Inside the shuk restaurant "Market and Public Catering" is made in the style of a real shuk. It is located in a small room, which is divided into two halls, in one of which there is a so-called "market", where everything is lined with shelves with products, and in the other - a cafe. Traditional Israeli products are displayed on the shelves: hummus, tahini, eggplant, pickles in large bottles, bread, crackers, muffins, waffles, coffee, tea and other products.
The cafe has two large long tables, where guests sit on high stools made of dark wood. Here you can find pleasant conversationalists or relax in a large company of friends. There are also a few small tables designed for a small number of guests, but they are usually always occupied. There is also a large bar in the hall, behind which there are several chairs - guests can also sit here.
In the warm season, the establishment has a summer terrace, where there are five tables, which also have the opportunity to sit.
Kitchen and bar
Jewish and Mediterranean cuisine can be prepared at the Market and Catering Cafe. The menu of this establishment offers dishes, conventionally divided into four categories: "Traditional Cuisine", "Sea Cuisine", "Steak and Sea" and "Desserts".
The "Traditional Cuisine" section presents dishes typical of Israeli cuisine, some of which are cooked here in a European manner. So, here you can taste beef kebab with Moroccan cheese, shakshuka, hummus, roasted eggplant with yogurt and salsa, burger with eggplant and tomato, burger with Blue Cheese sauce, cheeseburger with egg, falafel, baked cauliflower with tahini.
You can also taste real Israeli shawarma here, the name of which, although consonant with our usual shawarma or shawarma, does not actually resemble this dish at all. Shavarma is a soft flatbread that is stuffed with one of the proposed filling options (meat cutlets, falafel, seafood, chicken). The original offer from the menu is also the Israeli soup "Van-Tan" and the schnitzel "Coco Rico".
From the "Steak and Sea" section, a range of dishes are presented that combine ingredients such as meat and seafood. But as for the "Sea dishes" section, it is recommended to try the famous warm salad with squid and goat cheese, as well as grilled squid and shrimp - they are cooked here according to the original recipe.
For dessert, here you can choose from traditional Jewish sweets, for example, "Salabi" with cherries, sorbetsor "Tapioca" with green pistachios.
The Market and Catering Cafe has a good selection of wine - this drink is brought here from different parts of the world, and its price starts from 1000 rubles per bottle.
Guest Reviews
Having been in the "Market and Public Catering" cafe, many visitors note that they have an ambivalent impression of this establishment. First of all, this is due to its format, which is unconventional for a simple Russian layman. However, guests find a lot of positive aspects in staying in this cafe. First of all, the visitors of the "Market and public catering" are pleased that it is here that you can try unusual dishes of Jewish cuisine, as well as purchase products typical of Israeli markets, which are not so easy to find on the shelves of local stores.
Many guests love the relaxed atmosphere that reigns within the walls of the cafe. Here you can easily meet new interesting people or have a good time in the noisy company of good old friends. The service, according to guests, is also worthy here: the waiters of the establishment are as efficient and attentive to each guest as possible, they can always suggest any dish and choose the most suitable one, based on the individual taste preferences of the client.
