A fun chocolate piñata cake with a surprise inside is perfect for Halloween, birthdays or even - believe it or not - weddings. Kids (and adults) will love it, because who doesn't like pleasant surprises?

There are many variations of cakes with a surprise inside - with multi-colored cakes, vanilla, chocolate, decorated with various complex figures, and so on and so forth. But it is not always possible for a beginner to cope with the difficulties that have arisen or overcome a huge number of stages in order to get the desired result.

It is worth noting that not every cake recipe is suitable for piñata - if there is a lot of moisture in the cream, then the sweets hidden inside can turn sour. So, if you decide to experiment with the recipe below, choose biscuit cakes with thick cream and you will definitely not go wrong.

The recipe for a cake with a surprise inside, which we decided to offer you, is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance. Even an inexperienced cook can cope with its preparation, and the time required to obtain the result is only 1 hour 20 minutes.

Biscuit

According to the recipe for a piñata cake with a surprise inside, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 260g butter (uns alted);
  • 260g sugar;
  • 5 eggs;
  • 260 g flour;
  • 2.5 tsp baking powder;
  • 8 art. l. boiled water;
  • 60g cocoa.

Preheat oven to 180°C. Oil or line two 20cm round broilers with oiled parchment.

Mix butter and sugar with a mixer until light and fluffy.

Slowly add the eggs one by one, beating the mixture after each egg addition.

Mix the sifted flour and baking powder in a separate bowl and add to the previously prepared mass. Mix thoroughly.

Separately mix cocoa powder and boiled water to a paste consistency. Add to mixture, stirring until smooth.

Distribute an equal amount of the resulting batter among the broilers.

Bake the cakes in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean and dry. It is not recommended to open the oven until the cake is approximately ready, otherwise it may "fall off".

After baking, leave the cakes to cool and start preparing the cream.

Buttercream

For cream, take the following products:

  • 500g icing sugar;
  • 75g cocoa;
  • 300g butter (uns alted);
  • 2 tablespoons of milk.

Beat the icing sugar, cocoa powder and butter. You may needa little milk if the cream is too thick and dense, but do not overdo it. Remember, excess moisture damages surprise candies!

Also for filling the cake, i.e. for the surprise itself, you will need about 200 grams of chocolates (m&m's or other dragees).

Assembling a piñata cake with a surprise inside

After the cakes have completely cooled, cut each of them into two parts to get four round cakes. Carefully cut out a small circle from the center of the two cakes. These will be the middle layers for our surprise cake. For cutting, you can use a knife or a round cookie cutter.

Place the base on a board or cake stand. Please note that it is not recommended to move the finished cake, so collect it on the stand on which you will serve it to guests.

Spread a thin layer of cream on the bottom layer of your cake, place the second one on top and brush it with cream too (without covering the hole), and then the third layer. Do not grease the hole itself, perhaps a small amount of cream and will not harm the candies, but it's better not to risk it.

Fill the resulting hole in the center with chocolates. The larger the diameter of the hole, the more candies will fit in it.

Spread a thin layer of cream on the top of the cake and cover with the remaining cake without a hole on top to hide the surprise inside the cake.

Cake decoration

Cover the cake with the remaining buttercream both on top andOn the sides. Instead of cream, you can use chocolate icing.

To prepare it, pour 200 grams of chocolate into 130 ml of cream, melt over low heat without boiling, then cool, leaving for several hours in the refrigerator, and then beat with 50 grams of butter.

Cake with a surprise inside can be decorated at your discretion, using multi-colored cream, chocolate chips or even some of the chocolates that we used for the filling. It all depends on your imagination, skills and preferences!
