The history of the drink

Cocktail "Garibaldi" bears the name of the valiant Italian hero Giuseppe Garibaldi. The brave warrior played a significant role in the unification of disparate Italy, took an active part in the battles for the freedom of his native land.

This recipe was first created in Milan in 1861. Unfortunately, the name of the establishment and the name of the bartender who created this delicacy have not been preserved. But to this day, this drink is very popular all over the world, and for some it has become one of the favorites.

The Garibaldi cocktail is famous for its bright red hue, which resembles the scarlet jacket of a glorious hero. He wore it during battles. Some believe that he wore itso that when wounded, the enemies would not see bloody stains on clothes and consider him invincible. According to others, he deliberately chose clothes of bright colors to prove to the enemy how brave he was, not afraid of being noticed, and that he was not afraid of death on the battlefield.

Ingredients of the "Garibaldi" cocktail

150 years after the creation of this drink, its classic composition has remained unchanged. Previously, only alcohol, fruit juice and ice were used to maintain the temperature. Today, the drink has been improved by adding various ingredients to it, for example:

  • Bitter "Campari" (a bitter liquor based on aromatic herbs and fruits. It gives the drink that very bright red hue) - 50 ml.
  • Orange juice - 150 ml.
  • Lemon zest - 1 pc. (you can use orange or lime zest, the proportions are the same).
  • Ice in cubes - 200g

In the classic version, the proportions are as follows: 3:1, i.e. for three parts of juice - one part of Campari.

"Garibaldi Cocktail" recipe

To make your drink look more beautiful and sophisticated, take a large tall glass, even a classic highball will do. You will also need:

  • bartender knife or zest knife;
  • jigger (measuring cup);
  • cocktail spoon;
  • beautiful straw.

During cooking, follow these steps:

  1. Fill the highball to the top with ice cubes.
  2. Pour in the Campari bitters.
  3. Add orange juice to the top and stir.
