The story of this drink is as follows. At the end of the eighteenth century, the Swiss watchmaker Johann Jakob Schweppe developed a process for the production of carbonated mineral waters based on the discoveries of Joseph Priestley. In 1783 he founded the Schweppes company in Geneva. In 1792 he moved to London to develop his business further. In 1843, drinks were released that are popular with the British royal family to this day. Schweppes is a drink that has come in three flavors over the years – tonic (the oldest soft drink in the world, first invented in 1771), ginger ale (introduced in 1870), and bitter lemon (introduced in 1957).

In 1969 Schweppes merged with Cadbury. After the acquisition of several other firms in 2008, the company was divided, and the beverage business became known as Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, split from Kraft Foods.
