Information from history

Tequila Herradura has a remarkable history of its origin. In 1880, Don José Feliciano bought a colonial estate (hacienda). It was located in the Amatitan Valley, in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Only the best varieties grew in the vicinity of the haciendublue agave. Thus, the idea was born to organize a family business for the production of tequila. The first owners of the enterprise decided not to spend money on acquiring a state permit for the distribution of alcohol. Because of this, tequila could not boast of a vast sales market.

But everything changed in the period when the son of Don Jose Aurelio Lopez Rosales took over the management of the company. He was an excellent host and an even better tequilero. Thanks to the modernization of technological processes, production has reached a completely new level. According to legend, Rosales once found a horseshoe in the vicinity of his possessions, sparkling in the sun, like an ingot of gold. The family took the find as a good sign and decided to name their company Herradura. This is how Herradura tequila was born.

The horseshoe began to be used as the corporate emblem of the enterprise. The mark was registered in 1928. After Mexico was subjected to social and revolutionary upheavals, the owner of the company had to flee the state. Aurelio's cousin David Rosales took over the family business.

Alcohol characteristics

Today, Herradura Tequila is owned by Grupo Industrial Herradura. This manufacturer, among other things, also owns blue agave plantations, which are located in the states of Nayarit and Jalisco (Mexico). Only here, on red-brown soils enriched with iron, they grow a special variety of agave, which is the basis for the production of premium Mexican spirits. UniqueHerradura tequila features are due to the fact that it is made from the best variety of agave.

Features of the variety of this drink also consist in the fact that the composition of its distillers contains alcohol, which is made only from blue agave. It does not contain alcohols from corn or cane, and it also does not contain any aromatic or flavoring additives. The strength of the product reaches 40%.

What bottles look like

Not only Herradura tequila itself is remarkable, which has a dedicated army of fans all over the world, but also the bottles into which it is bottled after aging in oak barrels. Massive bottles with a capacity of 0.7 liters each have an elongated neck. The container is made of thick glass. The shape of the vessels resembles a glass, narrowed down. In Mexico, it is customary to drink strong alcoholic drinks from just such dishes.

The front side of each bottle features a real metal horseshoe. It is used instead of the standard label and is the company logo. As already mentioned, this good luck charm has become the name for one of the most successful alcohol brands in the world.

Product varieties

Today, the Herradura tequila line (we can see the photos of drinks in the article) is represented by seven varieties of the product. The differences between them are in terms of aging in oak barrels:

  • Herradura Silver: This variety has been produced since 1870. The recipe for its preparation since thenhas not changed and has always been observed with particular rigor. The drink is aged for 45 days. The result is a soft, crystal clear tequila with a light aroma of wood shavings, amber of citrus fruits, and a long and warm aftertaste.
  • Herradura Seleccion Suprema: This product was only launched in 1995. The distillate is also aged in oak barrels for 49 months, thanks to which it acquires a noble golden color.
  • Herradura Coleccion de la Casa: distilled strong distillate bottled for 11 months in barrels that previously contained cognac.
  • Herradura Ultra: premium variety.
  • Herradura Antiguo: This tequila was first produced for sale in the year celebrating the 125th anniversary of the company's founding. Up to this point, this variety was produced only for close associates of the Rosales family, who are descendants of the founders of the company.
