Cognac is called a drink with a masculine character. This is true, because the taste palette, aroma features and richness of accents create a bouquet of strict, seasoned notes. This is what alcohol is considered to be for gentlemen. No wonder that it was grape brandy that became the very ingredient, without which it is hard to imagine both a youth party and a status business dinner. What is cognac and why is it in demand in cocktails
Cognac belongs to the category of extremely strong alcoholic beverages with high aging and rich taste. This is a type of brandy, which, unlike, for example, vodka or whiskey, has flavors. Together with other components, this allows you to createfinished palette and emphasize the features of other ingredients. In other cases, additional components of the drink make it possible to soften the initially bright taste of cognac. So, for example, adding 2 measures of cola to a glass of grape brandy can significantly change the taste of the drink and make it more gentle.

Champagne Cocktail
This drink is famous due to the fact that its author Harry Johnson came up with a recipe that has remained unchanged since the late 1880s. The latter was often replaced with wormwood-based absinthe, which makes the cocktail very strong and intoxicating, but there are also milder versions of the original drink. Specifically, the recipe looks like this:
- put a cube of brown sugar at the bottom of the glass on a high leg;
- add 5 to 10 milliliters of bitters and wait until the sugar absorbs the bitter;
- pour cognac into a glass, give it a few seconds of exposure;
- add champagne, then serve.
An original drink with a rich palette of flavors. Sugar rarely dissolves completely, so you should not worry about the taste of a cognac-based cocktail, the result will be quite sweet and tart.
Coarnado
Simplecognac-based cocktails don't have to be unnecessarily "cheap". So, for example, "Coarnado" is perfect for a social event, as it refers more to low-alcohol drinks. In addition to alcohol, it is based on cream, banana, peach liqueur. The original taste of cognac blend alcohol is easily lost in this tenderness and the drink can be called feminine. A typical recipe looks like this:
- in the blender you need to add half a banana, 40 ml cream, 20 ml peach liqueur;
- pour 20 ml of cognac into the bottom of a martini glass;
- add thoroughly beaten ingredients;
- garnish drink with chocolate chips;
- serve chilled and do not stir, it is recommended to drink through a straw.
Cognac-based cocktail classics are almost always easy. In this case, peach liqueur can be replaced with any other. So, for example, using chocolate would also be a smart idea. Cocktails based on cognac and coffee allow you to add bitterness and invigorating notes to the original drink. All this is quite doable at home, the ingredients can be found in almost any minibar.
Alba
There is hardly a bartender who hasn't cooked Alba. This cognac-based fruit cocktail will be a real decoration for any lady, as it combines tart taste, delicate aftertaste, original notes and attractive appearance. At the same time, the classic recipehas undergone a lot of changes. Somewhere this drink is prepared using limoncello, other bartenders use orange liqueur, as required by an authentic list of ingredients, which can be represented as follows:
- 20 ml of orange liqueur, 40 ml of cognac, 10 ml of raspberry syrup should be added to the shaker;
- the drink is served chilled, for this you need to pre-chill the cocktail glass or add crushed ice to the shaker;
- drink should be strained to avoid sediment;
- glass can be garnished with an orange slice or mint.
At the same time, lime juice is often added to the cocktail or currant syrup is used as a sweetish note. There are a lot of variations of the drink, and almost all of them have the right to life, the choice is up to the connoisseur.
White Delight
The most common variant of a gentle, smooth cocktail based on cream and banana. It is also available in a lot of variations, among which there are even those in which there is no trace of the classic recipe. Almost anyone can prepare such a cognac-based cocktail at home, you don’t even need a shaker. You can imagine the real recipe for "White Delight" in this way:
- 250 grams of creamy ice cream or ice cream should be added to a tall glass;
- let the ice cream melt a little;
- pour milk in a volume of 130 ml;
- add 40 ml cognac.
If a connoisseur of cocktails still has a blender, thenhere you should also add a whole banana, then beat the drink thoroughly. However, as already indicated above, the drink often suffered changes in the recipe. So, for example, vanilla syrup or coconut liqueur is often used as a supplement in a volume of 20 milliliters.
Green Dragon
Very strong and tart cocktail based on absinthe rather than direct cognac. It is served quite rarely, since the real tincture is rare, and the fake can absolutely ruin the taste. However, the drink still has its connoisseurs. You can imagine his recipe like this:
- Pour 10 ml of absinthe, 40 ml of cognac and 10 ml of mint liqueur into the shaker;
- add crushed ice;
- mix thoroughly, then pour into a pile;
- serve burning.
Sometimes connoisseurs add cane sugar pre-soaked in bitters to the drink. In this case, the drink should be served in a martini glass, allowing the sugar to dissolve a little. As a result, this soaked cube must be eaten. Cocktails based on cognac and apple juice are rare, but not in this case. Green dragon can be served with, for example, cider to soften the astringency of the bitter.
Cognac with cola or coffee
This drink cannot be called a cocktail in the usual sense of the word. In addition, both options have a lot of opponents who claim that adding alcohol to soda or coffeecan completely ruin the taste of both drinks. In any case, the connoisseur should be aware of the proportions required for such cocktails:
- Cognac with cola. A 2 to 1 ratio is often used, as cola neutralizes the tart taste of cognac.
- Cognac with coffee. It uses a 4 to 1 ratio because the alcohol should complement the drink, not be the base.
