Offering guests a cup of tea without dessert is unthinkable. In this article, we share a recipe for a very simple and quick-to-cook treat - shortbread bagels with nuts. Cooking time - about an hour.

They are prepared from shortcrust pastry with nut filling inside. Any nuts can be used: peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, cashews.

The recipe for bagels with nuts is quite simple, even novice housewives can do it. First prepare the shortcrust pastry. To do this, take:

  • cold butter or margarine - 200g;
  • granulated sugar - 1 glass;
  • 3 cups wheat flour;
  • 1 egg yolk;
  • 1 tablespoon full fat sour cream;
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder;
  • 1/2 teaspoon s alt;
  • a little powdered sugar for sprinkling.

All ingredients are best served chilled. The dough should be cooked quickly so that it remains cool. This is the main secretpreparation of sand dough. Then the bagels with nuts are crumbly and just melt in your mouth.

Grate butter into a deep bowl and mix with sugar with a fork. Add egg yolk, sour cream, s alt and rub everything with a tablespoon. Add flour, baking powder and knead quickly. Keep in mind that the dough cannot be kneaded for a long time, otherwise the cookies will not be crumbly. The ideal kneading time is no more than 3 minutes.

The dough should be homogeneous, and the structure should resemble elastic wet sand (like children's kinetic sand for modeling).

Shape the finished dough into a ball, wrap in cling film and put in the refrigerator to cool for about 20 - 30 minutes. Put a rolling pin there for the dough, with which you will later roll out the dough.

Tip: Divide the dough base into two parts before adding flour. Add cocoa to one (1 - 2 tablespoons, to taste). Knead two parts of the dough - with and without cocoa. Then you will get bagels with two types of nuts: simple shortbread and chocolate.

The dough is chilling so you can start filling. For the filling you will need 1.5 - 2 cups of nuts and a glass of sugar. Nuts should be taken peeled.

In our case, we will use walnuts for the filling. So that the nut gives off bitterness and becomes delicate in taste, pour boiling water over it for 5-10 minutes. Then drain the water and dry the nut in a heated dry frying pan.

If others are chosen for the fillingnuts, they need to be roasted to add extra flavor. Frying time 1 - 2 minutes in a well-heated pan without oil.

For the filling, you need to crush the nuts in a mortar or grind in a coffee grinder.

If neither is available, use a regular mashed potato masher. Combine the crushed nuts with sugar until a homogeneous mass is obtained and grind into a thick mass that should not crumble. If the filling is still loose, add a little butter.

The baking tray is best prepared in advance. To do this, simply cover it with baking paper (parchment, or tracing paper).

Divide the dough into 2 parts. Put one in the fridge.

Roll out the other part of the dough with a chilled rolling pin into a round layer 3 - 5 mm thick. One piece of dough is enough for one baking sheet.

Cut it into triangles.

Spread the nut mixture over the widest part of the triangles. Wrap the corners of the base of the triangles inward - towards each other. Roll the bagels with nuts into a tube - towards the top of the triangles.

Place the bagels on the prepared baking sheet. Leave a distance of about 2 centimeters between them (do not forget that they will increase in volume).

Now you can turn on the oven and preheat it to 160 - 180 degrees.

While it is warming up, make the nutty bagels from the second part of the dough as described above.

Place the trays with the future treat in the oven and bake for 20 - 25 minutes. The dough should be well browned.

Sprinkle hot bagels with sugar or icing sugar and place loosely on a wide platter.

Tip: try baking bagels with other types of dough, such as puff pastry. It is sold already prepared (frozen) in many stores.
