The benefits of horseradish and horseradish

Before you start making and using horseradish tincture, it will be interesting to understand the beneficial properties of the plant itself.

Healing properties and benefits of horseradish are summarized below:

  • Helps normalize blood sugar.
  • Improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system.
  • Has a disinfecting property.
  • Compresses with horseradish help with rheumatism, frostbite.
  • Tincture (on water) is used inas a rinse during colds.

During the preparation of horseradish, some of the useful properties of the plant are lost, but moderate consumption of the drink has a beneficial effect on immunity and body tone. It is important to mention that the grated horseradish root retains a full set of its advantages for a short time, so it is better not to carry out this procedure in advance. Horseradish, like the plant itself, is a natural aphrodisiac.

How to choose the right recipe

During the long history of the drink, a huge number of horseradish recipes have been invented, for every taste and color. Along with the change in proportions and the addition of ingredients, the taste characteristics of the drink also change. Garlic, ginger, mustard and even celery root can act as additional additives. Personal preference plays an important role.

If the thought of making your own tincture came up for the first time, then among home-cooked horseradish recipes, you can safely choose the classic version that does not involve additional ingredients. For tincture you will need horseradish root, alcohol base, honey.

Better start with the classic horseradish recipe

To make a classic horseradish drink you will need:

  1. Half a liter of vodka (the choice of alcohol base does not play an important role, the strength should be 40-45 degrees).
  2. Horseradish root (preferably fresh, of course), no more than 10 centimeters, otherwise excessive bitterness may appear.
  3. Honey - one teaspoon.

The process of making horseradish (according to the recipe from vodka) consists of several stages:

  1. 100-120 g of vodka are taken, poured into a container convenient for mixing ingredients in it. After that, a spoonful of honey is added, and everything is thoroughly mixed. This action may be somewhat delayed, because the honey will not dissolve immediately. The resulting mixture is poured back into the bottle of vodka.
  2. Now you can start the main ingredient. Horseradish root is thoroughly washed and peeled.
  3. Next, you need to grate the root or cut into sticks. Which approach to use is not important, however, if you grate horseradish, then the finished tincture will turn out to be cloudy. In our case, for a transparent drink, horseradish root is cut into pieces of about 5 mm, and they are also sent to a bottle for vodka.
  4. The bottle must be tightly closed to prevent air from entering. Shake the contents and put in a dark place with a cool temperature for about five days.
  5. The contents should be infused, and these days it is recommended to shake it periodically, but in no case open it.
  6. Pour the infused drink into a clean glass container, you can strain and start tasting.

The recipe for horseradish vodka at home is very simple, just follow the minimum recommendations. But at the same time, it is important not to infuse the drink for longer than it should be, otherwise you will have to deal with increased bitterness.

A simple recipe for moonshine horseradish

Ifthere is no due trust to vodka bought in a store, moonshine can be used as an alcohol base. This approach in terms of the main stages is not much different from the recipe for horseradish from vodka.

All ingredients are absolutely identical, sometimes it is recommended to add a little fresh lemon juice, which will give the tincture a slightly more subtle taste.

It is allowed to infuse such a drink for up to seven days in a dark, cool room, after the expiration date, also strain and pour into a clean bowl.

It is important to understand that when using such an alcohol base, it will take a long time to prepare the moonshine itself and its taste may also affect the future horseradish.
