Slivovitz is a drink made from fermented juice from plums. Its strength is 45%, and it belongs to the class of brandy. In Croatia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Bulgaria, slivovitz is considered the national drink. Its recipe is very simple, you can cook plum brandy at home. It is usually consumed as an aperitif in its pure form. If mixed with another drink, you will experience an unpleasant metallic taste when consumed.

Main ingredients:

  • plum fruits (eleven kilograms);
  • water (eight liters).

How to make plum brandy

The manufacturing process consists of several stages:

  1. Preparation of fruits. Select sweet or even overripe plums. Fruits can not be washed, only wiped with a clean cloth. Next, separate the pulp from the seeds (for convenience, divide into two halves). Grind the pulp to gruel - you can use a meat grinder or blender. Place in a jar with a wide neck.
  2. Preparation for fermentation. Try the crushed mass first, it should be a little sweet. If not, add some sugar to taste. Stir and try again. Next, tie the neck of the container with gauze and leave in a warm place for a day. This action must be done in order for fermentation to begin. After a day, foam should form. This means that the process is running normally. Prepare a bottle and pour the mass into it, add water and shake well. Next, install a water seal.

  4. The fermentation process. Place the container with a water seal in a dark and warm place. Be sure to protect from sunlight. The process takes three to five weeks. During all this time, the water seal will gurgle. And when the bubbles stop appearing, move on to the next step.
  5. Distillation. Pour the fermented mash into a distillation cube. Distillation starts. It is best to take only the second distillation, so that the drink turns out to be of high quality. If you use this advice, you will get a 60% strength plum brandy. The recipe itself is simple, but the cooking process is long. The resulting slivovitz can be diluted as you wish.
  6. Insisting. If you have the opportunity to store the drink in oak barrels, then we advise you to do so, otherwise bottle it. Enjoy plum brandy after three months.

  • alcohol (1/2 liter);
  • granulated sugar (300 grams);
  • vodka (1/2 liter).

Wipe the plums with a kitchen towel. Cut in half and take out the bones. We put the plums in a bottle and fill it with water and alcohol. We close the cork and put it in a dark place for five weeks. When time is up, add granulated sugar, shake well and let stand for another five weeks. Then we filter (you can take a filter for making coffee or plain gauze). Bottled and corked.

In this case, we will put the plum entirely in a jar. We fall asleep with sugar, pour vodka. Next, close the lid. We put for three months in a dark place.
