Composition

In the first half of the 1970s, R. A. Bailey & Co, having decided to put forward their alcoholic products for export, began to experiment with recipes for making drinks based on Irish whiskey.

The idea of blending so refined and strongalcohol with other components was not new, but the manufacturers wanted something fundamentally different.

In addition, citrus fruits and coffee, which are best combined with Irish whiskey, were then expensive. The cheapest product theoretically suitable for blending was cream.

So a new idea was born. Whiskey, obtained by triple distillation, which gives it more softness, began to be mixed with fresh heavy cream. The result was Baileys liqueur - a drink with a delicate taste and pleasant aroma.

Today, about 40% of the milk produced by cows in Ireland is used to make it.

By the way, cream is known to spoil quickly. But thanks to the use of special technology and high-quality 3-year-old whiskey, the liquor retains its taste for a long time.

Submission Rules

Baileys is a classic digestif. That is, it is served after meals for faster absorption of food. It is appropriate to offer a drink at the very end of the meal, along with some dessert dish.

Serve it in liquor glasses, 25-30 ml each. If you want to mix liquor with another drink or add ice to it, then you need to pour Baileys into larger glasses. The ones meant for martinis or wine.

Serve the drink slightly chilled. Its temperature should be 18-20 °C. The bottle is not cooled - to achieve the desired degree, either ice or a cooling metal cube is placed in the glass.

Combination withother drinks

And now we can talk about what is best to drink Baileys liquor with. The cost of this drink, as well as the components included in it, indicate a noble origin, so it is recommended to enjoy it in its pure form. Do not even dilute with ice.

But still people like to combine it with something. Here are the two most popular options:

  • Unsweetened coffee. Many people replace sugar and cream with liquor, giving the invigorating drink an alcoholic touch.
  • Gin and vodka. These drinks have a neutral taste and high strength. Men prefer to dilute the sweetness of liquor with them.

The main thing is not to combine it with soda, mineral water, tonic or juice. Baileys liqueur has a milk base, so under the influence of carbon dioxide and acid it will simply “curl”. As a result, its appearance and taste will be lost.

Appetizer options

It is worth discussing what Baileys liquor is drunk with. The ideal addition to the drink will be sweet, but not sugary desserts that do not interrupt its taste. You can apply to it:

  • Light cakes. For example, tiramisu.
  • Strawberries with cream.
  • A ripe but not overripe banana.
  • Air curd soufflé.
  • Vanilla ice cream.
  • Mango, banana, orange and kiwi fruit salad dressed with natural yogurt and sugar.
  • Croissants with chocolate filling.

These desserts perfectly set off the rich taste of Baileys and express its noble velvety aroma.

Herewhat should not be served with it is something s alty, unleavened or sour. The last one especially. Again, the essence is in the composition of the Baileys liquor. Maybe someone loves grapefruits or lemons, but if you eat this drink with slices, then everything inside will “curl up”. And the body will react very violently to an exquisite drink.

Delicate coffee cocktail

Above it was told about what they drink Baileys liquor with. It's time to talk about the cocktails that are made with it.

One of many people's favorite drink is made with the following simple ingredients:

  • cooled strong arabica coffee – 100 ml;
  • liquor - 30 ml;
  • vanilla ice cream - 100g

Creating a Baileys cocktail doesn't take long. First you need to thoroughly beat the vanilla ice cream with a mixer. Then add the alcohol component and cooled coffee to the fluffy foam. The whipping process cannot be stopped.

When a homogeneous mass is obtained, it must be poured into a beautiful glass and sprinkled with grated milk or white chocolate. Garnish with some fruit (banana slice, strawberries and cocktail cherries, for example), insert a straw and serve.

B-52 is an immortal classic

This strong layered cocktail with Baileys liqueur should definitely be tried by every fan of interesting alcohol combinations. To make it, you will need:

  • Kalua coffee liqueur - 20 ml;
  • Baileys - 20ml;
  • orange flavored liqueur – 20 ml.

Ingredients are poured into a tall shot glass in layers. So that they do not mix, you need to be careful and use a bar spoon. If a person does not have it, an ordinary knife blade will do.

The components must be poured in the same order in which they were listed. Drinks in one gulp. A pleasant citrus sourness gives way to the delicate sweetness of Baileys, which turns into a strong coffee liqueur that harmoniously completes this interesting alcoholic tandem.

Raffaello

This is not even a cocktail, but a real dessert, a work of alcoholic art. To taste, it really resembles popular sweets. To make it you need:

  • coconut-flavoured liqueur (Malibu is suitable) - 30 ml;
  • ice – 120 g;
  • vanilla flavored syrup - 30 ml;
  • coconut flakes - 1 tsp;
  • Baileys - 30 ml.

All of the above, with the exception of chips, must be whipped in a blender. Pour the resulting mass, resembling a creamy fresh in appearance, into a glass. Top with shredded coconut and serve.

You can, by the way, show your imagination and add some melted vanilla ice cream. Then the amount of added ice is allowed to be reduced.

Homemade Ingredients

If you want to enjoy the exquisite taste of the drink, it is better, of course, to buy it in the traditional version. The cost of Baileys liquor in a 0.35 liter bottle in online stores is approximately 750 rubles. For 0.5 l you will have to pay about 1,000 rubles. For 0.7 l - about 1,300 rubles.

But some people just want to try their hand at alcohol. And so they wonder how to make their own Baileys.

Well, first you need to collect the following ingredients:

  • condensed milk - 1 can;
  • vanilla sugar - 2 tbsp. l.;
  • alcohol base, strength of 40-45 degrees - 0.5 l;
  • cream, 12-15% fat - 0.4 l;
  • chicken egg yolks - 4 pcs.;
  • instant coffee - 1 tbsp. l.

The most important thing is to choose a quality alcohol base. Expensive vodka, cognac ordinary brandy, Irish whiskey or food alcohol diluted with pure water will do. But not moonshine.

How to cook?

To get a good, high-quality Baileys liquor that tastes close to the original, you must follow the step-by-step instructions:

  • Use a mixer to thoroughly beat the condensed milk, egg yolks and sugar. But it will take a very long time, since all the ingredients have a high density. And it will take patience to “break” the sugar in condensed milk.
  • When a more or less homogeneous mass is formed, it is necessary to add coffee granules. Beat everything again with a mixer.
  • Then add cream. Beat until a homogeneous mass is formed, similar in consistency to a cream.
  • After that, you can pour alcohol. Re-activate the mixer.

Pour the resulting drink into bottles, cork them properly and send them to the refrigerator for several days. Then you can drink.

In principle, full-fat milk can be used instead of cream. But then you need to add about 100 grams more condensed milk on top.

Do you want to try interesting flavor combinations? Then you can use condensed coffee or cocoa. The most important thing is not to add more alcohol, otherwise the strength of the Baileys liqueur will kill its refined taste.
